Summit Afterthoughts

Part of my “business” as a project director of a Democracy-promoting foundation is to engage in all sorts of educative activities. This said, I wish to commend the organizers of the Second Philippine Blogging Summit and their many helpers in the backgrond for a job well done. Considering the huge variety of interests and the magnitude of possible topics, not to mention the diversity of the blogging (and podcasting) scene, I found this a major achievement.

I hope the liberal Foundation may be part of this project also in the future.

I particularly enjoyed the sense of community which became apparent also to an “outsider” like myself. At the same time, I once more understood that I am certainly far away from being what is termed a pro-blogger. One main shortcoming here is that - thus far - I simply don’t pay enough attention to what is published in the Filipino blogosphere. I hope that listening to and meeting up with some of the big names (and others also) may change that behavior in the future.

Furthermore, I wish to highlight the quality of the presenations. All too often I attend workshops or seminars where I have to listen to resource persons who are either not well prepared or rehash old stuff. The summit was different: I found all the speakers I managed to listen to well prepared, talking to the point, and - most importantly - original.

On a related note: We’re just in the process of putting together the documenary podcasts. The Liberal Times Manila Podcast will publish three special episodes on the summit. In this endeavour we are assissted by the very professional Angelo Racoma. The first epsiode should up before the end of the week. Please tune in.
